This week at Gainsborough…
Year 6 at the British Museum
Year 6 visited the British Museum on Monday to see exhibits from the ancient Mayan civilisation. The children fed back that seeing the artifacts in real life made the learning seem more real, and it was easier to remember if they had seen it in real life as well.
Year 2 at St Paul’s Cathedral
Year 2 we treated to the sites of the City this week and walked the Great Fire of London trail. They tried on clothes and visited exhibits from 1886 and were amazed at how London has changed over the centuries. A member of the public commented on how well behaved the children were and their questions about the Great Fire were noted by the workshop leader. Well done Year 2!
Year 5 at the British Museum
Year 5 visited the British Museum on Friday to see exhibits relating to the Ancient Egyptians. They saw a real mummy! The children completed a treasure hunt of artifacts and applied the language they have learnt through reading and lessons to locating and describing the Ancient artifacts. The children were more convinced than ever that at least some of the artifacts should be returned to Egypt. There are sending their debates, discussing who should keep the artifacts, to the British Museum this week. What do you think?
Keep Safe
Each half term we focus on a different Gainsborough Keep: kind, connected, safe, healthy, green or giving. This half term we have introduced the idea of giving your time to causes and issues to keep safe.
Safer Internet Workshops
In week 6 we are running a series of workshops for parents around internet safety. We will be inviting you and your child to attend these workshops to share what the law states about the use of the internet, develop rules around the use of the internet for children, and look at strategies you can use to manage your child’s screen time and the use of the internet in your home.

School Uniform at Gainsborough
We have a school uniform policy at Gainsborough which Reception to Year 6 are expected to follow. This consists of a navy sweatshirt or cardigan, white coloured polo shirt, grey skirt, trousers or shorts. Children are expected to wear black shoes or trainers. On PE days we ask children to wear their school jumper or cardigan, blue or black jogging bottoms or shorts and a white PE t shirt. There s not an option to wear tracksuits, hoodies or other sports clothing. Please could all families ensure children are wearing the correct school uniform and PE kit to school. We will be calling families to remind them and speaking to children about uniform over the Spring term.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
