This week at Gainsborough…
Sibling and Individual Photographs – We had our sibling and individual photographs taken at school this week. Older children collected their younger siblings and sat together for family pictures, while those without siblings at school came and had an individual picture taken. We have taken pictures of babies through to Year 6 pupils and information on how to purchase these will be emailed to families this week.
Road Safety Week – We looked at what road safety meant for us on our individual routes to and from school. We ‘reflected’ on our choice of clothing and thought about how we could make ourselves more visible in the dark by wearing reflective clothing, or carrying things with reflective material on. We also considered whether we chose the safest places to cross roads on our school journey. Please talk to your child about choices you are making when you cross the road to help them understand the safest route to school.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Keep Giving
Each half term we focus on a different Gainsborough Keep: kind, connected, safe, healthy, green or giving. This half term we have introduced the idea of giving your time to causes and issues.
Keep Giving Homework
Children have been asked to write an alternative Christmas list this week. They have been asked to consider gifts they can give loved ones that do not cost money…. This may be offering their time to do something for someone or with someone, making something, baking cakes for someone, writing them a letter or story: the list is endless. We hope this will inspire children and families to consider different ways of showing loved ones how much you care, rather than only giving gifts.
Keeping Connected in our Community…
Year 5 and The Tree Musketeers
Year 5 are heading to Hackney Marshes again next week, to plant with the Tree Musketeers! This is a long standing partnership with a wonderful organisation who we are really pleased to partner with. Year 5 are currently learning about the impacts of deforestation and will write about this in their writing lessons. They are also using the story the Great Kapok Tree to retell the importance of trees, and to wild life and in our local area. We are really excited to read their work next week!

Parent’s Information Session Year 6 – Wednesday 29th November
We are inviting parents from Year 6 to an information evening to discuss 2 important events happening in the Summer term for our Year 6 children. Please come to an information session to see the expectations being set for year 6 children in their learning as they prepare for SAT’s, how you can support them at home to develop good home learning habits and support their well being. We will also look at the importance of school journey, the preparation and resources children need, payments plans and options and how the school would like you to support the children through this process. It is an expectation that all Year 6 parents come to this meeting.
