Last week at Gainsborough…
We Wore SPOT’s for Children in Need at Gainsborough
We wore spots today: we bought spots, wore homemade spots, stuck on spots and most importantly raised £124 for Children in Need!
Biker’s Breakfast
We reached out to Wicked Bikes to support our Biker’s Breakfast this term! They showed up in true style and repaired a range of bikes from staff and children. Year 3 organised the Biker’s Breakfast and promoted this as a cleaner, more sustainable way to travel. Year 2 made banana bread in our new kitchen for the event. Well done Years 2 and 3 and thank you to Wicked Bikes.
Parent’s Evening Feedback
Most of our families came into school this week to meet teachers. Families were amazed by the progress they could see in children’s work books, floor books and displays. The children at Gainsborough make excellent progress in so many areas of learning: socially, academically and emotionally. We are forever proud, and really enjoy those moments, when parents can see their child’s progress on paper. It is also good to hear feedback from parents on our communication, how their child views school and what we could do better for them. Thank you for working as a team this week Gainsborough.
Year 1 Young V and A visit
Year 1 visited the young V and A to learn about toys from the past. The children saw toys from the past and were able to apply their science learning, naming materials the toys were made of and used that to say when they thought the toys were made. Well done Year 1! Great enthusiasm, behaviour and learning.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Coming up at Gainsborough…
Anti-Bullying Week and Odd Socks Day at Gainsborough
Next week we will focus on how we can intervene when children are unkind, how we notice differences between each other and approach these positively. The children in Years 1 -6 have been asked to design a pair of socks which would protect them from any bullies in their homework. Please talk to your child at home what they feel a pair of socks could protect them from! All children are invited to wear odd socks on Friday 22nd November to represent that we are all a little bit different!
Zero Waste Hub, Saturday 23rd November
Hackney Council are running a Zero waste up at Gainsborough. From 11-3pm you can donate clothes, toys and books and in return pick up items for yourself. They also offer bike repairs, electrical appliance repairs and clothes repairs- all completely free. Gainsborough staff will be on site hosting an open day session at the Children’s Centre and selling hot chocolate, home made baked goods and plants. Come along if you can!
Run Gainsborough Run, Sunday 17th November 2-4pm
Please join us for the fundraiser of the year! Run Gainsborough Run is organised by Run Kids Run https://runkidsrun.org/ They support schools to complete a fun and friendly run, to provide sponsorship from corporate sponsors and to provide an event the school can collect sponsorship for. Previously, these events have raised a whopping £6000 a year for the school. This huge amount was made up of £5000 from the corporate sponsors, when the school has over 30% of school turn out to run, and a whopping £1000 of sponsorship money from the children’s friends and families. We hope to have over 70 runners this year so that we access this huge funding pot again! This is our single biggest fundraising event of the year, and previously this has contributed to resources for the children to all enjoy, like the resurfacing of the football cage.
