Last week at Gainsborough…
New Oasis Wormery
We have had a visit from Trees for Cities this week who have helped us to build a wormery. The wormery will help us dispose of our fruit waste at break time in the Oasis. Years 1 and 2 will put their apple cores, banana peel and pear cores in the wormery each week. We will cover the fruit with shredded paper and cardboard. Then the worms with turn this food into rich compost!
A worm composter, or wormery, can turn your kitchen food scraps into fantastic fertiliser for your house plants and garden. Compact, smell-free and faster than normal composting, a wormery harnesses the digestive capability of worms to turn rotting vegetable matter into nutrient-rich material for your plants. Your wormery will provide you with a rich compost and a brown liquid, or ‘worm tea’, that you can dilute and use as a liquid fertiliser. Only certain species of worms will thrive in a worm composter, so it’s best to purchase the correct types or obtain them from someone with an established wormery.
Watch the video above to find out how to make your worm composter. Below, you can find the full instructions and some tips for success.

Nursery have had an exciting week this week! They have been running their own pet shop. Swans and Geese have brought in their own soft toys to represent their own pets and have worked on sharing and caring for their pets. They have also been lucky enough to have lots of doggies visit them this week in class. Next week they will have a visit from a pet fish, a cat and some bunnies. If anyone has any unusual pets then would like to bring in to show us, please let the office or a senior leader know.
