Year 1 are Building a Bug Hotel
Year 1 have started to build a Bug Hotel in the Oasis. Year 1 have been collecting plastic, bricks and stones, straw and twigs. If you would like to add items to the Big Hotel please leave them by the compost bin in the Oasis.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Each week we celebrate an amazing achievement from each class. Children are celebrated in assembly, receive a gold certificate and their name in the newsletter. Please celebrate their learning at home too!
Nursery Geese
Jerome was awarded a Gainsborough Gold Award for working really well in class with his friends and participating in group activities! Well done Jerome!
Nursery Swans
Kaia was awarded a Gainsborough Gold Award for some excellent mark making and name writing. Well done Kaia!
Reception Doves
Oscar was awarded a Gainsborough Gold Award for working really hard in all areas of learning and attempting maths challenges independently. Well done Oscar!
Year 1 Wrens
Redd was awarded a Gainsborough Gold Award for working hard in writing this week. he has also been very kind to his friends. Well done Redd!
Year 2- Owls
Riley was awarded a Gainsborough Gold Award this week. He has worked incredibly hard to show green sitting and has completed an excellent piece of published work. Well done Riley!
Year 3 – Hummingbrirds
Iram was nominated for the Gainsborough Gold Award always showing a positive attitude towards learning and always working diligently to improve her work. Well done Iram!
Year 4- Herons
Teddie was awarded the Gainsborough Gold Award for working incredibly hard to improve her handwriting this week. Well done Teddie!
Year 5 – Skylarks
Arielle was awarded the Gainsborough Gold Award this week. Arielle has written a very well structure balanced argument, using formal language. Well done Arielle!
Year 6 – Magpies
Hamza has been awarded the Gainsborough Gold Award this week. Hamza has shown an incredible improvement in behaviour, attitude and learning. This week Hamza’s homework was exemplary, well done Hamza!

Black History Month
As we head into October we will pay particular attention to celebrating black culture. We will do the following to raise awareness of the importance of under represented figures of black history by:
- looking at historical black figures in our history units
- listening to music by black artists in assembly
- learning about a black poet, preforming their poems and focusing on our presentation skills
- hosting a parents in class session celebrating our learning Friday 25th October 2.45pm
- hosting a Black History Month Family Feast on Friday 25th October 3.30-5.30pm

We are inviting all families to join us for a Black History Month Feast! We will celebrate our own and others’ cultures by wearing our own traditional dress and bringing a dish from our own culture. All families are welcome and we share our learning about black history month during this event.

Family Cooking, every Friday
Our family cooking workshops start up again this Friday. Every Friday we will be picking our own food, cooking it and eating with you! You can bring your whole family, enjoy some group cooking and learn how to compost and grow at home. Please email admin@gainsborough.hackney.sch.uk to book your place! The families who attend these sessions will be the first to try out our new community kitchen, we would really value your feedback and your time. Please come along.
Parent’s in Class Autumn 1 – Black History Month focus
We will hosting parents in class in Years 1 -6 on Friday 25th October from 2.45pm. Please come along and join us in class and see how our class works. These are not model lessons but activities that we have prepped with children for families to come and join us complete in class.
Nursery and Reception Class Donations
Running the EYFS is an expensive business. We are always grateful for donations! This half term we need:
- dolls clothes
- wooden, plastic or fabric toy food
- toys, resources and packaging relating to pets
- pine cones, twigs, stones, conkers and leaves for our mud kitchens
