Last week at Gainsborough…
Welcome Back to Gainsborough Primary School and Preschool
This academic term we will be focusing on the below school development points.
- Embedding our new maths curriculum
- Embedding the science curriculum, including the use of the circular food economy project and ensuring we teach great practical lessons
- Developing our DT curriculum by adding improved cooking opportunities and DT projects that link to building a sustainable environment
School and Community Kitchen Refurbishment
The kitchen, the size of 2 classrooms, has been modernised with the removal of gas appliances and the installation of new, modern cooking equipment to make cooking easier, safer and more efficient. The kitchen has been split into 2 rooms, the second being a community kitchen. This space will be used for DT lessons for the children, cooking workshops and clubs, family cooking sessions and can be used for community rental. This will enable us to live our our ‘seed to plate’ vision with children at Gainsborough being able to plant, harvest and cook their own meals here on site! We will be running family cooking sessions from week 3 and holding a grand opening with some very special guests in the Autumn term.
PE Days – we have had to swap Year 2 and 6 PE days, please not the below
Monday Year 6
Tuesday Reception and Year 4
Wednesday Nursery Swans and Year 3
Thursday Nursery Geese and Year 2
Friday Year 1 and Year 5
Uniform Reminders
Please be reminded that PE kits are worn on the day children have PE. These MUST be a white t-shirt and navy jogging bottoms, or shorts. Children MUST wear their school jumpers. Other sports wear is not permitted on PE days. Children in the incorrect PE kits delays the start of PE lessons and can be a health and safety risk. Please adhere to the PE uniform rules so that all children can access PE lessons for their full allocated PE time slots.

TARU Arts and Gainsborough at Hackney Carnival
TARU arts are working with pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 in order for us to take part in Hackney Carnival together! TARU Arts are a Brazilian Dance and Drumming organisation who have worked with us previously. They make their drums from recycled materials and perform dance and drumming routines in the style of Brazilian samba. Families will receive a letter via email outlining the expectations and details if your child would like to join us with TARU Arts at Hackney Carnival on Sunday 22nd September. We hope to see you there!
Family Cooking
Our family cooking workshops start up again this Friday. Every Friday we will be picking our own food, cooking it and eating with you! You can bring your whole family, enjoy some group cooking and learn how to compost and grow at home. Please email admin@gainsborough.hackney.sch.uk to book your place! The families who attend these sessions will be the first to try out our new community kitchen, we would really value your feedback and your time. Please come along!
