Last week at Gainsborough…
Welcome Back to Gainsborough Primary School and Preschool
Welcome back Gainsborough! What a first week back. Our kitchen and front entrance upgrade works overran and therefore we have had some temporary arrangements in place. These were:
Preschool and EYFS Holiday Camp ran from the Children’s Centre
School lunches have been served from the top hall with lunches being cooked off site and brought onto site.
The Year 1 and 2 children using Reception and the Nest playgrounds, and entry and exit via staircase 1.
The temporary arrangements and now not needed and we will now resume school as normal:
2 Year Old provision, 3 Year Old Nursery and the Preschool are all open as normal! All have some new furniture and some improved space and resources. We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back!
Year 1 and 2 will enter and exit the building via the Oasis outdoor learning space and use this playground for break and lunch. This is a more suitable staircase and space for them. They also have to look after the Oasis everyday!
Our school kitchen is now open! We will be cooking meals in our brand new kitchen and serving children from a now clean and clear school hall on the middle floor.
Thank you to everyone for their patience and commitment to getting everything right for the children and we now look forward to starting some really exciting learning.
School and Community Kitchen Refurbishment
The kitchen, the size of 2 classrooms, has been modernised with the removal of gas appliances and the installation of new, modern cooking equipment to make cooking easier, safer and more efficient. The kitchen has been split into 2 rooms, the second being a community kitchen. This space will be used for DT lessons for the children, cooking workshops and clubs, family cooking sessions and can be used for community rental. This will enable us to live our our ‘seed to plate’ vision with children at Gainsborough being able to plant, harvest and cook their own meals here on site! We will be running family cooking sessions from week 3 and holding a grand opening with some very special guests in the Autumn term.
TARU Arts and Gainsborough at Hackney Carnival
TARU arts are working with pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 in order for us to take part in Hackney Carnival together! TARU Arts are a Brazilian Dance and Drumming organisation who have worked with us previously. They make their drums from recycled materials and perform dance and drumming routines in the style of Brazilian samba. Families will receive a letter via email outlining the expectations and details if your child would like to join us with TARU Arts at Hackney Carnival on Sunday 22nd September. We hope to see you there!

School shoes MUST be black, these can be trainers or shoes. School staff will be contacting parents to remind them of the expectations and offer support to families if this is not manageable at this present time.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
