This week at Gainsborough…
Welcome back Years 1-6! We have had a super week: setting up our classrooms, settling in to our new routines, meeting new staff and children and enjoying our community. We have worked hard to write manifestos in Years 2-6 and vote for our peers to become class monitors and lead our pupil groups. Watch this space for our newly elected dynamic School Councillors, ambitious and passionate Rights Respecting Schools Team and passionate and talented Sports Ambassadors. Our elected pupil led groups help drive change in our school and support our staff and pupils to be the best we can be. The roles are very important and carry a lot of responsibility: we hope to achieve several national awards this year with the help of these teams. Watch this space…
Reader of the Week
Well done to all of the children who have kept reading over the summer and completed the summer reading challenge. We have all recapped how we use our reading logs this week and we hope parents can support us with reading daily at home. Each week we will award a child from each class with a Reader of the Week award for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home!
Keep Kind
Each half term we focus on a different Gainsborough Keep: kind, connected, safe, healthy, green or giving. This half term we have focused on Keep Kind and this week we looked at Democracy. On the 15th September we celebrate Democracy Day, which focuses on the right to vote for how our country is run. Our children have experienced a democratic voting system this week whereby they voted for their peers to become different monitor roles and different post holders. They have written manifestos to outline the skills they have for certain roles and used persuasive language devices to capture the listeners ear and entice them to vote for them! See our Year 6 manifestos below. Would you vote for them?
Keeping Connected in our Community this week…
We have been getting ready for the Hackney Wick Carnival. We have worked with TARU to learn to drum, dance and create Brazilian style costumes and we have been invited to join them in the Hackney Wick Carnival on Sunday 17th September. TARU have asked that we collect cereal boxes and long necked plastic bottles to support them. See image below.
At Gainsborough Next Week…
We have our younger learners returning. We have delayed their start date while our Early Years team have staff training and we ensure all of our children are well prepared for school. We have 2 Year Old Ducklings, 3 Year Swans and Geese and Reception Wrens starting with us on Monday 11th. Our children, staff and families are all incredibly excited about their return to school and we are excited to welcome new families to our community.
