Here you will find out about our Sports Ambassadors roles and responsibilities.
Sports Ambassadors
At the start of every academic year children in Years 5 and 6 apply to become a Sports Ambassadors.
What do Sports Ambassadors do?
Sports Ambassadors are a group of children whose aim is to promote physical engagement with children across the school. They meet weekly with Mr Forbes to plan opportunities for the encouragement and promotion of physical activity, while ensuring that the values of the School Games is central to their work.
What are the School Games Values?
The six School Games values – Passion, Self-Belief, Respect, Honesty, Determination and Teamwork – were developed by young people to recognize how the experience of sport should be incorporated within schools and sports events to reflect the ‘spirit’ of the School Games.
What do the Sports Ambassadors do?
They lead in the organizing and running of personal challenges in the playground with children from Years 1 – 6. This could include setting a skipping challenge to encourage children to beat their previous scores. The challenges vary according to the need of the year group in order to encourage those who do not normally engage in physical activities at play and lunchtime. They also vary the challenges to ensure that both boys and girls have an opportunity to take part in other sports during their break.
Sports Ambassadors support PE staff with the organisation and running of Sports Day. They also attend sporting competitions as reporters, writing pieces for our blog and newsletters.
