“Every artist was first an amateur.” – Ralph Waldo Emmerson
At Gainsborough Primary School we believe that art inspires creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to engage and express responses to ideas and experiences. It fires their imagination and is a fundamental means of personal expression.
Art should enable children to express and communicate what they see, feel and think. Children should experiment and explore their ideas, use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials, techniques and processes. Self-evaluation of work is encouraged and children are taught how to be reflective & analytical to achieve their goals. We believe every child has an inner artist waiting to be unveiled!
Art lessons are taught on a weekly basis by our very own in-house art teacher.
We have created our own pop art in the style of Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol liked soup. These are some of things we like! #keepconnected #blackhistorymonth2024
Andy Warhol picked Campbell’s soup cans for the subject of his art, simply because he liked soup. We have picked products from our African and Caribbean heritage simply because we like them, and made our own pop art! #keepconnected
Please come along and celebrate black culture with us at Gainsborough. Please bring a dish from your home country to share with others. School will provide some food, drinks and labels! Children are invited to dress up in cultural wear from their own culture and we will celebrate them through a children’s fashion show! We will also showcase our black history month learning: focusing on black poets and some fabulous heart to warm your art. All welcome! #keepconnected
Primary Advantage Art Exhibition 2024. Please visit Hackney Central Library to see our children’s art work displayed in an exhibition themed ‘Voice.’ The exhibition will be shown until the end of term and you can pop into the library any time between 9-8pm during the week, and 9-5pm at the weekends. Well done to the children and Ms Castellvi for pulling together some wonderful art work and for making this happen. #keepconnected
